Region Inclusive Basketball Camp

Posted by on 8:33 pm in Events | Comments Off on Region Inclusive Basketball Camp

2010 Inclusive Region Basketball Camp Information The National Autism Association of Northwest Indiana is happy to co-host the first ever inclusive region basketball camp! The main focus of this camp will be to ensure that all the kids have fun. This camp will be for 2 days (4 hours each day) August 14-15th, at the Jean Sheppard Community Center in Hammond. Each player with autism will be partnered with a neurotypical peer and a coach. We will work in small groups on basketball skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting and how to play a basketball game. All coaches working with the kids will receive training on autism. Each day we will have time for working on basketball skills, breaks, “free time” and a short 10-15 minute game. There will be an activity room setup to allow the kids to take a break from all the action. Player Requirements: All we ask is that each player be between the ages of 6 and 12 and be able to use the toilet independently. We do not have staff on hand to take care of personal hygiene. Once we receive your registration form, you will receive a confirmation letter with the schedule for both days. Prior to starting the camp, a waiver will have to be signed. There is no fee for this camp. If you have any questions regarding this camp, you can contact Coach Reggie Brooks at 219-545-3989  or Lisa Fox at 219-947-0229. Pre-Registration is required.  Download the form here and mail to:  NAA-NWI, PO Box 216, Hobart, IN  46342.  Deadline for registration is July...

Posted by on 1:12 pm in News | Comments Off on Deadline for Helping Hand Grant Apps is May 31st

The 2010 Helping Hand Grant program is coming to an end soon! We gave away $4,000 in 2009 to families in Lake and Porter counties who needed helping paying for therapy, therapeutic horseback riding lessons, doctor visits, supplements, social skills groups, and tuition. We have been busy holding fundraisers so that we can continue to provide much needed financial assistance to local families in a time when the state of Indiana is cutting Waiver programs and insurance companies are denying coverage for basic testing & therapies. What we ask of you is that you help us spread to your friends and family whenever we hold a fundraising event. The application must be postmarked by May 31st to be considered. Don’t forget to fill the application out completely and thoroughly and include all supporting documentation. Read the GRANT FAQ page before downloading the...
